They seem to handle our summers as well, though the leaves taste better when grown in cooler temps.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Battle of the Bugs<\/strong><\/td><td>Those darned cabbage moths\/worms do a number on collard greens.  We inspect the leaves daily and hope to keep them under control as long as possible.  Try catching a cabbage moth with a butterfly net&#8230;it is quite infuriating!<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Fun Fact<\/strong><\/td><td>Collards are in the same family as kale, cabbage, broccoli, and brussels sprouts&#8230;they all came from wild cabbage!<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Don&#8217;t Waste It!<\/strong><\/td><td>Eat the whole plant (though the stems and veins can get tough so you might want to remove them).  Steam or sautee.
